Kelly came to Vavoom on a whim but she sure did shine during her shoot! We love you Kelly and you can read her Vavoom experience below:
Was your experience at Vavoom what you expected?
“To some extent, yes– I’d checked out Vavoom’s Instagram before coming in and knew that they’d do an AMAZING job, which they TOTALLY did! The Vavoom team is a fabulous and talented bunch that works magic and brings out the absolute best in you! Getting hair and makeup done for the shoot was half the fun. As for the actual photo shoot part … well, I went into that without a clue on what to expect. I’d signed up for the shoot half on a whim after a female friend that was in the army told me that I should. This was my first time doing anything like this and I didn’t know how to prepare besides drinking a lot of water and looking at a lot of Gil Elvgren paintings. But when I was in the studio with Heather, the shoot just felt so spontaneous and natural! Poses, outfit selection, and smiles all came with perfect ease– that was the part I hadn’t expected (especially because 1. I usually plan and practice things a lot before I do them for real, and 2. I’m awkward). It must’ve been that Vavoom magic at work!”
What happened in the days and weeks after your shoot?
“I went back to work as per the usual, wearing steel toe boots and jeans and lab coats and safety glasses … but knowing that I was secretly glamorous.”
Do you think Vavoom changed you somehow? If so how?
“Absolutely! Without going into too much detail, I went through a few really rough months before coming into the shoot– I was pretty down about a lot of life events and circumstances that I felt were out of my control. But when I look at my photos, I just think I look so damn happy– happy to be home in Chicago, happy to be basking in the presence of fabulous females, happy to be doing something that makes me happy. It’s like the kind of happy that nothing and no one can take away, and it reminds me of one of my favorite quotes of all time (by Albert Camus): ‘In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.’ I know it sounds super cheesy, but I really do think my experience at Vavoom helped me find that invincible summer– the evidence is in the photos!”
